When Valentine’s Day Doesn’t Show Up on Valentine’s Day

I read somewhere that Brad Pitt regrets how his divorce with Jennifer Aniston was handled. That makes me so sad.

Also, did you know that White Castle fast food restaurant let you make reservations for Valentine’s Day? I believe the reservation comes complete with a little teeny table for two and a red silk rose in the middle of the table and you likely will be served steamed onions on a bun, complete with a little slice of meat. Oh, and you can have cheese on it if you please. Though, I’m not entirely sure if this is true. We aren’t going.

And did you know that research indicates that ladies long for romance on Valentine’s Day? That’s a shocker for sure! “They” say that’s why chocolates and flowers are so popular on Valentine’s Day. Who knew????

Sometimes Valentine’s Day doesn’t show up on Valentine’s Day though.

Now, I’ve never been one to turn down a beautiful or sweet or funny or mushy or elegant card from my guy on Valentine’s Day…

…0r flowers, or chocolates or beautiful candle or an intriguing book or a pretty picture. Oh no! Not me, I’ve never been one to turn down a sentiment of love and I’ve enjoyed celebrating every single Valentine’s Day with him…well every single one since we found each other, that is.

In fact, I’d probably follow the gleam in his eye anywhere.

But you know, sometimes Valentine’s Day doesn’t show up on Valentine’s Day.

There are times it shows up when the tire on the car goes flat.

Or there isn’t time to fix a nice meal to eat at home after a busy day at the office.

Sometimes it shows up just sitting in quietness,

and working hard to pay the bills and take care of employees and life’s demands.

Sometimes it shows up when stress is out the roof and the last nerve is about to fry.

Sometimes it shows up running to get medicine when there are other things pressing more loudly.

Sometimes it shows up at the dryer and the clothes are folded,

or the gas tank is filled with gas.

Sometimes it just shows up because showing up and giving out and hanging on and believing in a new tomorrow and a new day,

is when Valentine’s Day shows up the best.

Sometimes it shows up without the flowers and chocolates and beautiful card. Sometimes it shows up without the romance…

…because that’s when Valentine’s day doesn’t show up on Valentine’s Day.

  1. As always you are SO spot on! I would so much rather my valentine be there day after day then only once a year! And thank the Lord, HE knew that is what I needed and that is exactly what He sent me! I am learning to have such a great appreciation for those very things…the gas tank that gets filled up without my having to think about it and the laundry that gets done when my migraine is back again! God is good and your writing is awesome!! Happy Valentines Day! Planning a trip to visit your porch soon-ish!!!

  2. Beautifully written.! I agree The not Valentine’s Day’s are the best Valentine Days.

    1. Thank you Donnie. Yes, it’s just about living life to the fullest every day. Happy Valentine’s Day to you too.

  3. I love this. It takes a few years into the roses/cards/chocolate cycles of Valentine’s when you realize that roses dry up and you have to throw them away. Chocolate sweetly lingers on the tongue for a few lovely moments, then you look in the mirror and wonder… That year, when you know the outer shows of love aren’t the important part… that is when you finally understand true love. Thank you so much for your insight!

    1. Dorothy, thank you so much for your visit and your comments that reveal so much truth… realizing true love.
